The Pounamu Room (ages 0-1 years)

Our Philosophy in the Pounamu Room is based on creating an environment surrounded with care, enrichment, stimulation and love. We understand that each child has individual needs and feel lucky to be the Kaiako (teachers) that they trust and rely on here at the centre. Something we are passionate about is making children laugh and smile. We believe that each child learns the best when they are having fun in an environment where they feel safe and secure.

Environment

Our teachers are responsive day by day to the needs when caring for infants, where routines are determined from when the child arrives. Our Nursery environment is prepared to entice children’s curiosity and exploration where testing, trying and challenge is valued.
Play is open-ended and full of fun as we embrace the unknown of how children explore and experiment with their ideas and theories of how the world around them works. Once our young ones are mobile, they usually begin their independence with transporting resources from one place to another, engaging with music instruments and become very busy with clearing the tables, emptying bowls and often develop a real interest in hiding things in the most curious of places!

Transition

For new children, we encourage 3 settling visits, approximately 2 weeks before your child’s start date to ensure a smooth and settled transition for both you and your child. This helps them to get familiar with their new environment and meet their new friends, ensuring this is a positive step in their learning journey. Our Transition Policy is available by asking a member of the team.

Communication

For children aged 0-12 months, we provide you with a communication journal so our teachers in the Nursery can keep you updated with daily information about your childs day.  We also use Storypark to share photos, videos and audio of your child’s development so you never miss out on those treasured milestones. Storypark also offer a handy mobile app so can have updates right to your smartphone.
